That's right, we have said good bye to Grant's friends, Size 5 Diapers. We originally started potty training Grant in Aug 2009, but due to my illnesses and my frustration with Grant we started and stopped several times. 2 months ago we started full force again with Grant when we felt he was more ready and we had some very frustrating days when he would pee or pooh through every single pair of underwear he owned.
AHHHH... I was doing laundry all the time. Our plan was to have him wear underwear during the day and wear diapers or pull-ups at sleepy times. Grant was getting really good at using the potty for #1, but for the life of me I couldn't convince Grant to use the potty for #2. He would save it all up for the diaper at
nap time and then not take a nap.
So in my desperation, I bought a foam sword and told Grant that I would have a sword fight with him if he went #2 on the potty. Still no luck. So we realized, if Grant is smart enough to hold it in until a diaper is placed, then he shouldn't be wearing diapers. As smart or stupid parents, we decided to take away diapers completely- (no more nap or bedtime diapers and no more diapers when we leave the house). Hooray! it turns out that we are smart parents! Grant had fewer accidents when he was consigned to underwear 24/7 and started going #2 in the potty! Yeah!!! So we have had many sword fights and Grant is even staying dry during naps and at night time!!! The best part is, after he is done playing with the sword in the evening we take it away and he has to earn it again the next day- so I don't have to give him candy or buy him additional, motivational toys! Some may wonder if bribing with weapons is a bad idea-it might be, but we feel that poohing in underwear is a greater evil :).

This is Grant's potty stool. Bottom step to help him onto the toilet and the top step to help him reach the sink so he can wash his hands. Chris made this with the leftover wood from
Grant's bed. My mom added the little animals and then I painted it a cream/blue combo.

Hooray for pooh in the potty! Grant has been 100% diaper free for about 2 weeks and he has only had two #1 accidents and zero #2 accidents!

Just because she's cute.

Our post-pooh fight in action.
One time when Grant was going #2 he grunted, "To Infinity and Beyond".
Great job Grant, we are so proud of the big boy you are becoming!

Potty training + Buzz Lightyear quotes = Hilarious on so many levels
hey, I think that bribing with weapons is the greatest idea ever! hmm, maybe I'll try it on my kidletts when they are around that stage.
Totally jealous!!! Good job! We use playing hide and seek as our bribe. Your little girl is a cutie! I wish I could meet your kidlins - someday I hope!
YAY!!!!! So exciting!! Great job, Grant! (And KaraLee & Chris! ;) I'm so happy to know it's possible! What a cute little girl you have! Miss you!!
