Kid-isms

Maddie- After taking a long bath. "Look mom, my hands are sprinkly."

Below are 2  typical conversation that we call "Mad Hatter Conversations"

1.) Maddie- Mom,  it's raining.
Me- You're right Maddie, it's called Sprinkling.
Maddie- We're going to get ice cream with sprinkles?

2.) Maddie- Look Mom, a farm. But where is the farmer?
Me: Well, he's probably in his house because it is hot outside.
Maddie: No, mom, he's in the field working.
     Me: Ok, Maddie.
Maddie: Mom, where is the farmer?
Me: He's working in the fields.
Maddie: No, Mom, he's in his house because it is hot outside.

We were looking at some Halloween decorations and Grant saw a fence made out of bones.
Grant:  "Hey mom, those monsters are good thinkers, they recycled their bones to make a fence."

Big Man on Campus

Grant started kindergarten 1 week ago and so far is loving it!  We are excited for what Grant will learn and that he will make new friends that live closer to our neighborhood.  I am really excited about his teacher, she LOVES children and teaching and has been teaching at this school longer than I have been alive. Good Luck Grant!

Vacation to Door County

We decided to take a vacation Midwestern style.  So we headed up to Door County Wisconsin.  Absolutely  beautiful and amazing!  I hope we can make this destination a traditional spot for our family.

We took the kids to a local animal farm.

Grant won a few staring contests with the Shetland ponies, this was one of his winning faces.

Visited a beach in Fish Creek.

Attended the world's smallest town festival.  West Fest in Sturgeon Bay.  Grant climbed an inflatable wall.

 Sturgeon Bay

We brought the kids' kites and flew them in between towns whenever there was enough wind.  So much fun!

Sturgeon Bay Drawbridge

Had ice cream at an amazing ice cream parlor that opened in 1906.  I got a Jr sundae that was about as big as my head.

In Door County, there is a traditional Friday Fish Boil. So we went to one at an Egg Harbor restaurant.  Super fun! Below the fish, potatoes, and carrots are in the boiling pot.

Right before the fish are finished cooking, they throw some kerosene on the fire to make it explode.  Awesome.

They are taking the pot off the fire to take inside the restaurant for our dinner. Yum!

Grant was in "boy heaven" on this rocky beach.  He was in explorer mode big time.

Kids on the beach at Egg Harbor.  It was chilly that day, but they were so excited to play that they didn't care.  I was a party pooper and stayed on the beach blanket. Chris was awesome and took the kids into the chili Lake Michigan waters.  They loved it!

Zoie was a super trooper in the 5 hour car ride.  She was pretty good for most of the trip.  The sleeping arrangement was hard because we were all in the same room and Zoie decided to cut her first tooth.  So tonight I am really looking forward to more than 2 hours in a row in my bed.  But she is so cute, that I can't be upset.

My favorite site, was the Cana Island lighthouse.  Absolutely amazing.

I took Grant up to the top of the lighthouse.  He had to climb 97 steps and was really excited until he got outside and realized how high up we were and how strong the winds were, which made him very nervous.  The weight requirement per person to climb the lighthouse is usually 40 pounds, but the winds were particularly strong that day so they changed  the requirement to 50 pounds.  Poor little Maddie wasn't heavy enough to go up, but I think it would have freaked her out anyway.  I'm proud of him for walking all the way around the tower, some adults didn't choose to do it.

Such a great trip, but it is really nice to come home.

Zoie 6 months

Our little sweetie turned 6 months on July 30th.  She is getting so big!  This week we started her on baby food.  I don't know if she doesn't like the flavors or the textures, but so far she isn't a fan.
So far she has tasted squash, peaches, and bananas.

She is our little Drooley bug.  She is constantly drooling.

She is starting to sit on her own, a little wobbily, but she is getting so much better.

She is sleeping a little better at night and still so smiley all the time. We love this little girl!
